Droid

by Adisa on Feb.11, 2010, under Tech

I have a droid. Smart phones are great for the active lifestyle. I have used it for a little over a week now. The blackberry was old so it was no chance it could keep up with this. The nexus looked great but the lack of a keyboard seemed less than optimal for me.

He can really put words together and I really respect that. Also he might be off his rocker a bit. – thats ok with me.

As we come to the end of a great festival season, I have been blessed to have a long term goal fulfilled.  Below is a music Video for the song “Planet Crush” by the Black Rock City AllStars.  About half way through you will see yours truly along with my TripKnight family.
Please send this to people if you will. Lots of talent, love and energy went into the process.

August Sample

by Adisa on Aug.04, 2009, under Uncategorized

This is a cover. However, it integrates samples and that’s why it qualifies. This is enjoyable. I love the Beastie Boys and Jay-Z: he’s one of the few big rappers doing grown man hip hop.

Facebook Issues

by Adisa on Jul.14, 2009, under Funny, Tech, Uncategorized

I’m finally getting into Facebook. Funny how much my phone rings off the hook with questions about the internet and computers. I really enjoy tech questions because I think I shine. I seem to have never taken to these social networks very well. Last month, I tried to send a comment about some shows I was doing with TripKnight, as well as the Black Rock City All Stars, when I inadvertently hit reply on a comment from this girl I used to know, that was all about her bad day. Seeing her picture reminded me of a resource I needed, so I emailed her (at least I think I did). Now, in one day I went from occasionally signing on, to amateur facebook cyberstalker tech doofus. She never wrote me back, but that’s ok. I know I’m sharp.

Class Clown

by Adisa on May.27, 2009, under Creatives, Funny

I don’t know why this just came to mind but since it did, I thought I’d share. When I was in high school, junior year, I found a voice activated tape recorder. I realized very quickly that I could capture any loud noise at the very beginning of the tape thus making playback easy as I would not have to search for it. In fact, with that noise at the beginning of the tape I could operate the playback without even looking at the device. So I went to one of my classes early and hid the recorder above a cabinet located near the school P.A. speakers. When the bell to get to class went off, it was recorded right at the beginning of the tape. At some point during class, I retrieved the device and played it back 5 minutes early. The thing was so loud that the teacher really did think it was the end of class and let us go. Students around me could tell it came from me but everyone left anyway. I did that trick for each remaining class that day. I actually used the time to get over to the class of this girl I liked and walk with her to her classes. I thought I was being smooth but she no doubt thought I was creepy. I guess I kind of was. I used to do strange things in high school–like during my senior year, instead of the socially acceptable Jordan’s or other cool shoes, I opted for $9 Velcro kicks from Walmart. I also used to sit in a small foldable beach chair in some of my classes. Later on, that kind of behavior got me in pretty good with the ladies. I would tell them stories and they would say how much they would have liked me in school. Those ladies were not at my school that’s for sure. Small suburbs often have a smaller range of acceptable behavior. The other day I walked to yoga with a light blue yoga mat wearing a t-shirt, sweat shorts, black business socks and dress shoes and no one turned their nose up. The big city. In fact, if I were single, I could probably “pull” a girl in that outfit, but then again game is a lot tighter as an adult.

Why is Reno on fire?

by Adisa on May.17, 2009, under Burning Man, Creatives, Hip-Hop & Rap, Music

I have been having more and more conversations with people about the unique and profound energy coming out of the nightlife in Reno NV. No other place and time has had this many things working for it.
I have hit the scene in most places people talk about: San Francisco, Hollywood, New York, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Seattle and a bunch of other places too. What sets Reno apart from other places is the “everything effect”. Here is the list of things in or around Reno:

Outdoor Sports –> Water Skiing, Snow Skiing, Boating, Camping, Hunting, Fishing, Kayaking and so on

Vices –> Gambling, Prostitution and 24 hour bars.

Events –> Hot August nights, Baseball, Basketball and public performance areas.

Landscape –> Reno is pretty small

Jobs –> Reno is a major shipping and receiving hub so jobs have a future.

College –> U.N.R gives it a college town feel sometimes.

Star Power –> The casino and other venues bring in big name acts

So, those are the raw ingredients but it is more than that. The Median age for Reno is around 34, meaning it has a very young populous. Burning Man really supports year round events and Reno being the closest major city gives the party-goers a common flag and a consistently sexy aesthetic. The most important element in this perfect storm is the people. I have never seen such a committed group of people who put the time, energy, and money into really enjoying this life. Seattle is very similar – almost a small town feel where everyone is very interconnected and actively participating. In Reno I notice it in the form of the crews and the media. All the various organizations, and the local media that reports on them, help to make Reno an amazing place.

May Cool Sample

by Adisa on May.15, 2009, under Creatives, Hip-Hop & Rap, Music

This month the Cool Sample comes from Trick Daddy. The song is called “Lets Go”. It uses an Ozzy Osbourne song called “Crazy Train”. What I like about it is the Ozzy yell mixed with the beat. It doesn’t just sample a riff but it puts a little Ozzy in it as well. Plus this track is vintage Trick Daddy and vintage Lil John.
